How to Make an Easter Bonnet in Under 5 Minutes: Savouring the Season Linky Party 28

In your Easter bonnet
with all the frills upon it
You'll be the grandest lady in the Easter Parade
- Irving Berlin, Easter Parade -

My little girls are slowly but surely growing up... and with that, comes the onset of the "parental creativity expectations"... you know, the nativity costumes, the book week outfits and yes, this too...

The Easter Bonnet.

I'm not going to lie. I'm thrilled at the prospect of all these creative challenges. I know a lot of parents hate these "costume days" but I am absolutely not one of them.

Who doesn't love an opportunity to dress up??!

(OK... my husband hates fancy dress... but let's not go there!)

So when I got "the call" from my Mum this week, to inform me that Ava, and she herself, would need an Easter bonnet for the Mums and Tots group they attend every week, I leapt at the chance.

And Ava and I got to work!

Let me stick a caveat in here... I love a bit of creativity, and I'm a perfectionist when it comes to my own creations... but when it comes to children's crafts, I'm of the firm belief that they need to look like they've been made by the child. That means they're not perfect, and they aren't necessarily Pinterest-worthy...

Ava and I made this bonnet as a joint venture, and it took us a grand total of about 5 minutes... so if you're after some Easter bonnet inspiration that will cost you next to nothing, be quick, and enable your children to get involved, then here you have it!

How to make an Easter Bonnet in under 5 minutes!

 You need:
* A Paper Plate (ideally coloured, but white is fine)
* Some ribbon
* Some coloured paper
* Felt tips
* Decorations of choice (we used peg flowers, a giant paper clip & sticky gems - anything would do!)

Step One:
Turn your paper plate inside out, so that the edges are pointing down rather than up. Then poke a hole in the centre, and cut triangles out from the centre in order to make a crown-like hat.

Step Two:
Get your little one to work on some decorations. Ava "decorated" a piece of purple paper with felt tips which I then cut a large flower out of. She also decorated some little butterflies that I had cut out. She then stuck the gems on where she thought they would work (This doesn't always make for the most aesthetically pleasing bonnet, but as I said above... it gives the children ownership and a sense that it is their creative achievement, and not just Mama's work of art!)

Step Three:
Attach all your homemade "decorations" to the bonnet using a quick-drying glue... Pritt-stick possibly won't cut it, as it needs to be secure, and you don't want little gems falling off for little sisters (who devour everything) to swallow!

Step Four:
Cut the ribbon in half and attach one half to the underside of the bonnet on one side with sellotape, and attach the other half to the other. This can then be tied under your child's chin to create the "bonnet" look!

 So there you have it - our 5 minute Easter Bonnet creation... and doesn't she look delightful?! (OK... I'm biased!)

Spring time is well and truly here and, after a manic few weeks, we're beginning to gear up for Easter! Next week, I'm hoping to share some of the little Easter traditions we've established over the last 3 years.

Now its your turn! What springtime fun have you been having this week? Crafts, Recipes, Adventures and Activities. All are welcome as we celebrate the season!
